The Pathmatics Explorer Category page allows users to view spend, impressions and top creatives for a specific category. Users can choose from the top 31 standard IAB categories and their sub-categories.
You can navigate to a Category page by searching for the Category name in the Omnibox:
Or by selecting a desired category via the Category Browser modal, located next to the Category name on any category page.
Select your desired category from the list, and click the “View Category” button to be redirected to that page. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Use the convenient search bar at the top of the modal, or re-sort the list by Name (A-Z) or Spend (Desc.)
Top Creatives for [Category]
On a Category page, the top 10 creatives with the highest spend over the selected date range, region, and device type are showcased in the Top Creatives section.
To view up to 500 additional creatives for your selected date range, region, and device type, click the “See Top 500 of [#] Creatives” link located under the top 10 creatives.
Viewing a Creative
Select the creative of your choice to view details on:
- Creative’s Brand
- Dimensions/video duration and type of creative
- Flight dates of the creative
- Top sites this creative ran on
- Landing page of the creative (if available)
- Trend graph of spend throughout the creative’s lifetime
Should you notice a discrepancy regarding the creative data presented, click “Report an Issue”. A member of our support team will contact you within 24-48 hours.
To save the creative to your computer, simply select “Export as PNG”.
In addition to collecting creative details, our machine-based data aggregators capture a screenshot of each creative as it appeared on one of the sites it ran on. To view a screenshot, click “See This Ad on a Site”. A new window will open in your browser.
Creative screenshots can be saved to your files by clicking “Export” on the Creative Screenshot page.
The top 10 creatives with the highest spend over the selected date range, region, and device type are showcased on the Advertiser Categories page.
All screenshots are timestamped on the bottom right-hand side of the image.
To view top creatives in a list format, click the “List View” icon next to “Grid View” as shown:
List View showcases the top 10 creatives for your selected date range, region, and device type alongside their spend, impressions and trend graph.
To view up to 500 creatives in List View, click the “See Top 500 of [#] Creatives” link.
Top Advertisers for [Category] Table
Top Advertisers for each category are ranked according to the highest spend and impression numbers per the selected device, date range and region.
To search for a specific advertiser, enter the advertiser name in the search bar located above the “Impressions” column.
The Top Advertisers for [Category] table offers 3 ranking categorizations:
- All Advertisers tab - The top 500 advertisers who have bought inventory both directly and indirectly
- Direct Advertisers tab - The top 500 advertisers who have bought inventory directly
- Indirect Advertisers tab - The top 500 advertisers who have bought inventory indirectly, or programmatically
Click the down arrow next to “Advertiser” to reverse your table’s ranking order.
Click on an advertiser name within the table to visit the advertiser’s Explorer page.
When viewing data within the “All Advertisers” tab, you will notice a column labeled “Direct” to the right of the advertiser name. A green check mark indicates that this advertiser has bought inventory directly.
To view the devices each advertiser is running ads on, hover over the icons located in the “Devices” column. If you wish to view data across a single device type, simply set your “Devices and Formats” filter to the device of your choosing.
Spend and impression numbers are ranked from highest to lowest. To reverse this ranking order, click the down arrow icon to the right of “Spend” or “Impressions”. Click the up arrow icon to change your ranking order back again.
The Top Advertisers table allows users to view a list of the top 500 advertisers from within the platform. Should you wish to view additional advertisers, visit our Export article to learn more, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Top Categories under [Category]
This section will display if the Category has received the updated 2021 taxonomy, and if there are sub-category levels below the current Category. You can view Category, Devices, Spend, and Impressions for the sub-categories directly below the Category you’re viewing.
Click the “Show Details” pop-out icon for a preview of creatives and more data, like the deeper layer of sub-categories beneath the category clicked.
Device Breakdown provides a breakdown of the spend and impressions by device.
In the Spend and Impressions tab, the donut chart details the percentage of spend or impression share by device type.
Hover your mouse over the device name, or over a portion of the circle or line graph to highlight data for an individual device type.
Hover your mouse over a specific point on the line graph to view spend or impression figures.
To hone in on specific date ranges, adjust your date range filter.
Top Sites for [Category] Table
Top Sites for [Category] Table contains a list of the top 500 sites the chosen category appears most frequently on. Should you wish to view additional advertisers, visit our Export article to learn more, or contact email@example.com
To search for a specific site, enter the site name in the search bar located above the “Impressions” column.
Click on a site name within the table to visit the site’s Explorer page.
To reverse your site table ranking order, click the down arrow located in the “Site”, “Spend” or “Impressions” column. Click the up arrow to undo.
Hover over the icons in the “Devices” column to view the device formats each site ran ads on.
Who are [Category] advertisers buying impressions from?
The Purchase Channel table allows you to view spend and impression share for the top ad tech partners at play across the top ranked sites in the category.
In the “Spend Share” tab, purchase channels are ranked in order of highest spend. Percentage of spend share is listed in the “Share” column.
A donut chart to the right of the table provides a visual representation of spend share by channel. Hover your mouse over each portion of the graph to highlight the purchase channel type.
In the “Impressions Share” tab, purchase channels are ranked in order of highest impressions. Percentage of impression share is listed in the “Share” column.

Click the name of any ad tech partner listed in the “Purchase Channel” column to be redirected to the partner’s Explorer page.
